Gulf and Ranges Optometrists provide comprehensive eye examinations, assessing your vision well as examining the health of your eyes.

The Council
Port Augusta City Council covers the city of Port Augusta, including Stirling North, and the seaside homes located at Commissariat Point, Blanche Harbour and Miranda and has a population 13,985 (ABS Census 2011).
The elected Council comprises of the mayor and nine councillors, with Port Augusta City Council responsible for a diverse range of services including aged care, child care, tourism facilities, parks and gardens, ovals, art galleries and performance centres, roads and bridges, street lighting, children's special needs centre, Aboriginal community development, drug and alcohol management, town planning, and library and information services.
Port Augusta is uniquely located on Spencers Gulf, with the Flinders Ranges providing a spectacular backdrop. It is also located on Australia's crossroads for both rail and road.

Council
The Flinders Ranges Council was formed on 1st January 1997 with the amalgamation of District Council of Hawker and the District Council of Kanyaka-Quorn.
The Flinders Ranges Council area extends from Mount Brown Creek and Pichi Richi pass in the south to Arkaba in the north, a distance in excess of 100 kilometres. It takes in the western side of the Flinders Ranges to near Carrieton and Cradock in the East a distance of approximately 45 kilometres. In total it is 4,198 square kilometres of the magical Flinders Ranges. The townships of Quorn and Hawker service the council area.

The story of the Flinders Ranges began 800 million years ago when natural forces stretched and thinned the earth's crust, creating a deep hollow. The sea flooded in, depositing over the next 300 million years huge amounts of rock and debris. Over time, this ancient seabed was sculpted into a fractured, furrowed landscape, where deep valleys covered with twisted cypress pines drop away into sheltered creeks lined with river red gums. So unique were the fossils found in this landscape that geologists revised their time-line of the earth's history, identifying a new episode called the Ediacaran period.
Famous for its dramatic scenery, ancient mountain ranges, rich Aboriginal heritage, character-laden country towns and abundant native wildlife, The Flinders Ranges Council area is ideal for short breaks or longer stays. The region offers visitors a taste of the Australian Outback within a comfortable drive of a capital city, making it ideal for short breaks or longer stays. In fact, many of the growing number of people who are choosing to travel around Australia spend a week or two in the Flinders Ranges. Ride the delightful Pichi Richi Railway for a heartwarming journey through the region's charming historical towns. It operates from April to October
BHP Billiton - Olympic Dam Corporation 
Current Operation
Located 560km north of Adelaide, South Australia, Olympic Dam is a multi-mineral ore body. It is the world's fourth largest copper and gold deposit and the largest known uranium deposit. It also contains significant quantities of silver.
At Olympic Dam, BHP Billiton mines, processes, smelts and refines ore to final products. In recent years annual copper production has averaged about 180,000 tonnes, with 4,000 tonnes of uranium oxide, 80,000 ounces of gold and 800,000 ounces of silver.
The proposed expansion
BHP Billiton is seeking the approval of the Australian, South Australian and Northern Territory governments for a significant expansion of its existing mining and processing operation at Olympic Dam.
The proposed expansion is centred on the creation of a new open-pit mine that would operate simultaneously with the existing underground mine. The proposed expansion would be a progressive development, requiring construction activity over several stages. The project schedule ultimately will depend on the timing and nature of government approvals and the final investment decision of the BHP Billiton Board.
